ABOUT ONCOLOGY MASSAGE

A cancer diagnosis is profoundly life-changing for the patient, their family members and caretakers. Research shows that massage therapy is an effective treatment for reducing stress, fatigue, muscle tension, and physical discomfort associated with cancer treatment.

Oncology massage is a specialized therapy intended to safely and effectively help manage the side effects and complexities of cancer at every stage of treatment, so we welcome current cancer patients and cancer survivors.

After a detailed and thorough medical history intake, a CATA licensed massage therapist will work with you to develop a custom-tailored session adapted to your individual health concerns.

    • Oncology massage aims to alleviate the side effects that cancer and cancer treatment produce.

    • Each oncology massage session is tailored to the individual client’s immediate and long-term needs with special regard to the full range of cancer-related considerations, side effects, precautions and contraindications.

  • Studies have shown that massage helps reduce:

    • Stress

    • Fatigue

    • Pain

    • Musculoskeletal tension

    • Anxiety

    • Nausea

Additional benefits include: improved sleep and quality of life, enhanced mood, relief from post-operative discomfort and more.

    • The first visit takes about 2 hours. Your therapist will review your medical history in detail with you.

    • You will be asked to complete an assessment form before and after each visit and to sign the completed medical history intake and consent form.

    • You will be asked to remove clothing to your level of comfort, and will be covered at all times during the massage to ensure your privacy and comfort.

    • Post massage session: your therapist may make recommendations regarding number and frequency of follow-up sessions, simple breathing techniques and/or demonstrate stretching techniques as appropriate to your specific symptoms and medical history.

    • Follow-up visits last about 80 minutes. Your therapist will briefly review and update your medical history.
